Sketching the Day Away in Ngau Chi Wan Village

A great day out in one of the few remaining villages in the urban area of Kowloon, we sketched from morning till late afternoon, had dim sum in a village restaurant and tasted herbal tea from a village tea shop.  Great day! Great result!

A fine day in Yau Ma Tei

2 urban sketchers from Singapore visited us during the long Easter holidays, (Favian Ee and Kai Siang).  We picked Yau Ma Tei to show our friends.  Yau Ma Tei is an old district in Kowloon, we decided to sketch around the Fruit Market in the morning and Tin Hau Temple in the afternoon.

A very sunny and hot day at the Yau Ma Tei Fruit Wholesale Market!

We stood in front of the historic YMT Theatre to sketch the adjacent view.

We took our friends to the famous Mido Cafe 金都餐廳 for lunch, which is adjacent to the next sketching location.

Gary took us to the top of YMT parking structure, which we were surprised by the panoramic view around.  We quickly scattered all over the 8th floor and to starts our view hunting.

I might love these intricate roofs a bit too much... As often the trick is to find a proper and practical balance between details and feasibility. Guess where my approach on this sketch leaned to?

Finally our guest Kai Siang, he chose a curve highway between two buildings.

And Favian captured our moment with his beautiful techniques.
We look forward to meet with them again soon in Singapore.

Graham Street continue and forever.

After the sketching event organized by our friend Sketcher-Kee on the 22nd March, 2015.   Our sketchers did not stop the momentum and continue to record this face lifting neigborhood.

Beautiful terrazzo balconies of a printing company at the corner of Wellington Street and Graham Street. The owner has moved and the building will soon bite the dust.
This florist's stand was on the opposite side of the alley last week. Her stall got demolished by the Urban Renewal Authority and she continues her business beside the butcher.

Another scene from the rapidly disappearing Graham Street market. On that day I sketched with Jane Blundell from Sydney. I am not sure how old the grocery store on the left was. It was the scissor framed awning that attracted me at first. Half way through the sketch the lady from the flower stall started removing the beautiful orchids in front of me. Jane said to me "it's all my fault!" as it was ...the orchids which attracted her initially. So I asked the florist whether she was packing up for the day, she replied that she was taking a lunch break and after a while the orchids came out again. Alvin Wong dropped by too, and we met Tommy Kane from New York. The grocery store has now closed permanently but the flower stall is still open for business.
